Teaching is one of the oldest professions around. As future educator you are now creating your own vision on what a teacher needs to be in the classroom, the school community and the community as a whole. After reading, discussing and reflecting on what a teacher profile should include and model, what do you believe is essential for teachers within this 21st century to be? What should educators within this time model for future generations?

Literacy in technology has been proven to be beneficial to students. It enriches their lives by helping them to keep organized, place a quasi infinite source of information and perspectives at their fingertips, and over allows them to increase their productivity. It is because of this that any teacher worth their weight in textbooks will understand that technology integration is of the utmost importance when it comes to helping them become the best they can be. For all this praise however, technology is still just a tool, a small part of the picture. Teachers need to incorporate technology intelligently, putting students at the center of the learning process as always. There needs to be a methodology and a teaching philosophy in place to ensure that technology is used intuitively as an extension of teaching to ensure that we are preparing students as best we can.

This video encourages teachers of the present and the future to be innovative with their teaching, to awake curiosity to learn to the students, and to be their guides throughout their learning process. Innovation can be brought upon the use of technology as an aid for both the teacher and the students to make learning more effective in a creative way, one that adjusts to this modern society. This can be used by assigning projects and investigations to students, with this they can acquire knowledge on the topic that has been assigned to them as well as develop new task-managing strategies, which leads to the next point, the teacher as a guide. Teachers of the 21st century should be the facilitators of knowledge to their students. They should teach their students that not everything they learn has to come from a textbook, but, with the guidance of a teacher, they can find answers and discover things on their own. As constructivist theorist, Lev Vygotsky, said: “What the child is able to do in collaboration today, he will be able to do it independently tomorrow”.

As teachers, we will heavily influence the future generation and it is our duty to lite the spark of inquiring about everything that surrounds them. It is my believe that as an educator I will not only prepare children in the subject of the class; but it’s an imperative that I give them tools that they can use in real life situations. So in conclusion, each one of us could be the teacher that reaches that one student and manages to say the perfect words which stay with him forever and forge him into the adult he will become.
ResponderBorrarI, personally, think that teachers of this century should be guides instead of lecturers. With so much information coming our way in various forms (be it the internet, magazines, television) it's hard to keep up and easy to lose oneself in what could be called a sea of information. A teacher should be the one to guide his/her students on how to properly use valid information for their own advantage and growth but also as a tool to be helpful in our society. Helping students reach their full potential and helping them develop new abilities and skills should be the purpose of education.

In my opinion one of the most important things teachers should practice and model is lifelong learning. This is important because education should not end once the students obtains a degree. It should go beyond the years as a student. I was once told ¨Be sure to seek knowledge, because if one day you lose everything, that will be the one thing no one can take away¨.

Teachers clearly have a great influence in their student's lives, but now in the 21st century is where the teachers have it harder. As a future teacher, I think students want to see a teacher who not only stands in front of the classroom to teach but also as a human being who can relate to them in many ways. I strongly feel a teacher should evolve not only according to technology but also as world events take place. What I mean by world events is that we need to wake up every morning ready to pursue a healthy and successful environment but to do so, we have to be able to show sympathy and care for the things happening around us. We need to be more open to the news so we can teach but also relate to what is happening outside the classroom walls. The teachers of this century need to model fairness, diversity, sympathy, needs to be diligent, well-prepared, engaging, passionate, understanding, and most of all a teacher needs to be HUMAN.
ResponderBorrarI think as teachers of the 21st century we need to be facilitators of knowledge. In this day and age there's so much information out there and it is so easily accessible. Most people, even children, have computers, smart phones, or tablets, we just need to teach them how to use these devises properly. The first step is just to make them curious, to make them think critically and investigate a subject. It is important to connect their work with real life experiences so the learning experience results to be more meaningful. If that first part is done correctly, then teaching them the process will go by more smoothly. An important thing to remember is to always model the values and behavior, you want to see in your students. A simple but powerful thing to do is to model and open-minded view of the world, to teach respect and compassion towards others. Those two things, curiosity and respect, are so simple yet so needed nowadays, and as educators we have the ability to influence future generations.

Education is I would say one of the most changing fields in the world in the past few years. The beginning of the technological era has majorly made this change, for the better. In this 21st century, teachers are looking to integrate students into the classrooms installing curiosity and using many different techniques to enthusiasm kids all ages into learning and thinking. A classroom is no longer enclosed to four walls, children can investigate and explore the outside world not just physically but through the media as well. Within this 21st century, it is essential that teachers would get on board with technology as is taking over practically the entire world. Through the media teachers could find multiple resources and activities that would encourage students to learn and to think respecting each and everyone's learning diversities. Educators in this perspective should keep modeling themselves throughout the years, learning new techniques to develop interesting and innovative lessons that respect each an everyone's diversity and developmental stage. Finally, a teacher should always be open to listening and improving each teaching device and technique according to the student's need as no child should be ever left behind.

Teaching in the 21st Century is quite a task. Students get bored easily and the traditional way of learning is obsolete to them. However, the task of engaging students is not something any teacher can do, and perhaps that is the problem. The 21st century teachers should be quality teachers, they should be motivated to see their students grow intellectually and become better human beings. Educators today need to understand that even though there is a generation gap between themselves and the students, that they can stay up to date easily. With the help of social medias and Google, anything is possible. Teachers can search for "Ways to keep students motivated in class" or "How to engage technology in the classroom", and get dozens of great ideas. Students love using technology, but if teachers do not show them ways technology can help them learn, then it is just a waist of time to them.
ResponderBorrarOn the other hand, teaching and learning is not the only part of being a teacher. Educators are also role models for students, especially the young teachers. Students look at the way teachers dress, and how they express themselves, heck some students have their teachers on social media and stay up-to date on their social lifestyles; they are constantly watching, learning and adapting themselves to what they see. That is why teachers have to be careful about what they do and say. The advances in technology have been great for a lot of things, but being able to access almost everything on the Internet has made kids grow up faster and with their desire to grow up quickly comes the search of idols "Who I want to be like", and that is when a role model (us educators) need to take advantage and be a good example for them. Perhaps a teacher likes to smoke and drink, well that is fine because they are adults, but going to class and telling their students "Last night I was out partying and I have a hangover" is not appropriate. Teachers need to keep their personal lives to themselves, it is part of the job. They should encourage students to be good, to be free, to go after their dreams, to never give up, to be happy even in the bad days, because it is our job as educators to help students set goals and achieve them, it is our job to enlighten their path and show them the way to a better future, because they are our future.
